“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the
one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise
the other.” (NIV)
We have so many masks for covering up our inconsistencies.
1. Church Mask
2. Work Mask
3. Family Mask
4. Friend Mask
Who are we trying to kid? God sees through each of our meager efforts to put on a front. Why do we try to portray a different person to different people? The need to be accepted is so powerful among mankind. This, I believe, is a form of serving the wrong master. We want to feel loved, comfortable, and accepted so much that it sacrifices an intimate relationship with Christ. Do what is right. Live with integrity. Be REAL!
If you can't say or do things in church that you would normally do in real life . . . then it is time to take a break and reanalyze things.
If you portray your life as perfect, how do you help others through the problems that you have personally gone through?
Stop juggling all your masks! Be the same person all the time. A lot of times our actions can be viewed as hypocritical because of all the quick costume changes.
Simplify the wardrobe. Taking off the mask can be a frightening
experience but is well worth it. When you can be honest with other
believers, yourself, and God, life seems so much simpler.
